American Association of Neurological Surgeons on the Invasion of Ukraine
The Â鶹ÊÓƵ is an international organization which, for over 90 years, has been dedicated to education, research, treatment, and advocacy related to diseases of the brain and spine; conditions which constitute many of humanity’s most common, consequential and debilitating afflictions.
As a medical association committed to advancing the health, safety, and well-being of individuals around the world, we wish to express at this critical, historic juncture our profound solidarity with the citizens of Ukraine, including our Ukrainian neurosurgeon colleagues, as they valiantly seek, with international assistance, to defend their liberty, security and ancient, sacred cultural values against the current invasion by Russian military forces . Furthermore, we wish to unequivocally express our condemnation of violence as a means of advancing individual or national self-interests, wherever and whenever such tyrannical disregard for human life, dignity and freedom takes place.
We hope for a swift cessation of hostilities, along with a return to regular societal order that is respectful of the basic rights which fundamentally and inherently belong to all human beings.
